Realistic Safety

What's all this talk about not traveling to Europe for fear of terror attacks? There are more chances of getting hit by a car on your way to work than by a terrorist attack as you stroll down the Champs Élysées or cross a bridge over a quiet canal in Amsterdam. If by traveling to Europe we defy terrorism, let's all go on a European holiday. This is what we get when our Realist policymakers think that conflicts in Syria and Yemen are contained and that actions by Assad and ISIS do not pose existential threats: our country becomes a gigantic prison, and our political leaders begin acting like haggard wardens who constantly feel “too old for this shit.” And all of a sudden, our list of good friends gets to include such fuzzy characters as Raoul Castro, Vladimir Putin and Hassan Rouhani. Oh, don’t you just feel safe! Just so very fucking Realistically safe!
